Next Edge (evolving) case study:
On February 4th, Flemming Funch left a post that began ‘What can one get here, in the Next Edge?’ A nice beginning to my emerging story which I’d like to share with you all :) -> https://www.facebook.com/groups/120497731371323/permalink/232862960134799/ -> On March 18th, I left the 72nd comment on his post revealing that I was going to be spending some time in Europe and that I would have two weeks that I wanted to spend Next Edging in whatever place with whatever people I could. A type of revealing and open-ended question (regarding an irl-inreallife- unfolding scenario) posed less common in the fast paced stream here, and that I was curious to explore!
-> On March 30th, after my comment had faded quickly away! I opted to rewrite, and resurface my inquiry as a post rather than a comment, and consequently, begun to see responses of two kinds: suggestions and references of people to contact, and invitations to come visit and a place to stay. Both were immensely helpful and delightful to receive. (This post is one way of my reflecting gratitude and feed-forward to this system). Here’s the link to the post ->https://www.facebook.com/groups/120497731371323/permalink/268029883284773/
-> For the first half of April, with only a month until my open-ended time, I still didn’t know where I was going to spend my 14 days, who I would see, or where I would stay. Others kept pressing me, and wondering what I would do, what was my plan? We would both know that I had very little money to spend, and we would both wonder, why was I taking the risk? Was it crazy to put my time, energy, and money in the hands of a 2000 person facebook group, 3 of whom I ‘know’ care for me personally? Because it really was the key system I’d been banking on. A supportive friend and mentor Jean Robertsonoffered me the book ‘Feel the fear and do it anyway’. And so I did. I contacted Helene Finidori , the ambitious inspiration emerging the Global Pull Platform to Engage the Commons inquiring about a mention she had made about London, England and a possible convergence. Around the same time, I’m discovering, via the Next Edge, about the seminar series on the Commons happening in London that George Pór just brought up here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/120497731371323/283096421778119/ . This is an amazing set of events to be happening and I’d be seriously hard pressed to think of something I’d be more excited about than the opportunity to attend this series. They just so happen to begin on May 7th and go till May 18th. I just so happen to have time from May 5th to May 20th.
-> On April 20th I get an email from George Por, part of my response to which is written here, George :), outlining possibilities for including me in the conversations leading up to, and including the seminar series. I was more than thrilled and have been teeming with high energy and anticipation since. It feels a relevant time to share that I have also just finished today reading, in full, Charles Eisenstein's book Sacred Economics, the combination of which leaves me in this moment with beautiful, and concrete visions of the sacred world we are co-creating. And almost as an afterthought in his email, George mentions they’ve found a place for me to stay a week! Gratitude George, and I’ll connect so soon!
-> And so that’s where my story sits now, the ever present unknown of what will unfold next, but I’m coming to delight in it! I suspect that many more conversations take themselves outside of the facebook group to dive deeper and form stronger bonds, but I also suspect it’s helpful for the system to witness some of those occurences, in order to amplify the effect! What can one get here, in the Next Edge?
